JOE'S 5 FAVORITE PLACES TO PICK UP VINTAGE FURNITURE

Looking to score some awesome vintage pieces at a fraction of the price (or even for free)? We've got you covered! We love hunting for vintage furniture, and we've gotten pretty good at it over the years!! Here are our top five places to hunt for vintage pieces to transform:

Alley Ways

Did you know the piece that started MegMade was found in an alley? Alley finds are always the best - one man's trash is another man's treasure! Especially in the city, people are always leaving unwanted furniture on the side of the street or in their alleyway. Joe and I used to just drive around and look for pieces that we loved! Sometimes you'll get really lucky and find the perfect piece for your space.

Estate Sales

Estate sales are also awesome ways to find vintage pieces in your area. Keep tabs on the ones going on near you by checking places like your local newspaper or other places online specifically for posting estate sale information. Joe loves going to estate sales because it's usually a one-stop-shop for a ton of cool vintage pieces all in one place! If you're feeling adventurous -- make a little road trip out of it and drive to a huge estate sale, you'll probably find a ton of cool pieces and go on a little adventure along the way!

Resale Shops

Resale shops are another awesome way to find cool, vintage furniture at a fraction of the price for what you would pay buying new. Make a day of it and go to a few resale shops in your area to find the perfect piece for you. When you're there, it's important to try to see the piece not what it is now but what it CAN be! Envision the pieces with a few fresh coats of paint and even some new hardware.

Your Parent's Home

If you're looking for new pieces for your next home or project, sometimes you don't have to look far! Furniture just isn't made like it used to be, which is why vintage pieces can withstand the test of time. If you're looking for great pieces to redo use pieces that your parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc. don't have a use for anymore. It's a great way to pass down pieces that have been in the family for years while also allowing you to put your own, unique spin on them!

Online

Finding pieces in person are always so fun because it's more of an experience, but finding pieces online is an amazing way to be able to check out hundreds of different options at once! Places like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist (how we got started), resale websites, etc. are great ways to see tons of great options and compare them all at once. It's also a great option if you're needing to arrange pickup vehicles and don't have a car to take them in on hand.
